Dear participants, welcome to the evening workshop in Odderøya.

The workshop is designed as an integrated part of the recently initiated research project TIME/LAND. In this project, we work with experimental approaches to collective acts of walking, listening and sharing. The aim is to explore experiences of Time as an embodied and embedded phenomenon of continuous re-turning and re-membering related to the phenomenon of Land (Nancy, 2005; Barad, 2017).

In our own artistic research practice we have experimented with different ways of merging our individual walking experiences though the use of digital media, both synchronically (through Zoom, using our phones) and diachronicly (recording sound and images to be (dis)played by the other person later, while walking) (Illeris & Anundsen, in press)

In this workshop we invite you to experience and create diachronic/asynchronic walking experiences through sound, immersing yourself in the landscape of Odderøya. You will do this in four steps:

  1. First you will find or download a sound file on your phone. The sound has been produced by us for this workshop from recordings of our recent interactions with Land. (See TimeLand.no > Workshop)
  2. While moving through the landscape (by walking or moving in other ways), you listen to the sound file. It is about 10 minutes long.
  3. When finished, please continue moving while you produce your own sound file. The file should be 2-5 minutes long. You have about 10 minutes to produce the file, so please just improvise.
  4. 30 minutes after your started your walking we will gather again where we left each other. Here you will be guided to upload your file on the project platform (TimeLand.no> Upload). This will make the sounds available to all participants, and accessible for others to make new walks with new soundfiles during the conference and after.*
  5. (Optional) If you wish, we appreciate if you take time to share some of your immediate reflections about your experience after the workshop.
