Hello everyone, my name is Zhiyu (Gabby) Wen. One thing that will come with me to Lesvos is a VR headset. The reason that I want to bring it is that I’m fortunate to have some experience in making VR films, and it is something that I found may be useful for people that are confined to a fixed place, eg, people living in nursing homes.

VR is such a fascinating thing that allows people to reach out to so many possibilities. People can travel to different places as they wish, to become a complete person, break through their reality, and forget about their troubles for a while. Through the world of VR, I would love to explore how it can improve social interaction and stimulate reminiscence, and how it can help people to tell their stories.

Here I share with you a screenshot of one of my VR films. This film illustrates dementia from a first-person perspective. The person living with dementia in this film found themselves losing directions, seeing double images, forgetting where they are, and their world is starting to distort. Hopefully, I can share this film with anyone interested in Lesvos 🙂

Fascinating. The still already makes me feel a little dizzy. I look forward to get to know more about how you work with persons with dementia.
