Henrike Neuhaus undertakes her PhD research at Goldsmiths, University of London, exploring practices of care in the realm of Taekwondo in Buenos Aires. Through visual anthropological methods, the scope reaches beyond aspects of teaching and apprenticeship. The PhD project aims to examine relationships and care through the lens of gender, age and moving bodies in relation to class identities and ethnicity in particular. Producing an installation of a map that is linked to several short films, the aim is also to create an audio-visual-counter gift and an exhibition that describes the practices of care and evokes a sensation of the different urban spaces. The idea for this project sparked during MA degree in Latin American Studies at the Free University Berlin, when she created several collaborative documentaries with informal cardboard and refuse collectors. She transmits her knowledge and skills of anthropological filmmaking as an associate lecturer at Goldsmiths, and as a guest lecturer at both the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and the University of San Martín (UNSAM). At the latter, she also served as a part of the organising board of the UNSAM Science Fair and Short Film Festival 2018 pushing the boundaries of academic engagement and is now involved in several working groups to encourage interdisciplinary encounters.
